The wall of the |smooth muscle| comprising the bulk of the |uterus| is called the myometrium, and is considered the most powerful muscle in a woman's body. It is normally moderately soft and compressible, and highly vascular and soft in |pregnancy|. This is the muscle which makes it possible to push out the |fetus| at birth, and is also responsible for uterine |contractions| during labor.
